Collaborative Law
Collaborative law is a method of alternative dispute resolution. At its heart is the idea that family breakdown is best managed in a non-adversarial way. A collaborative approach, while not suitable for everyone, might mean that the family finances are not placed under the same pressure as if you were to resort to traditional Court action and it also often means that parents talk sensibly to agree child care and contact arrangements that are in the best interests of the children – rather than resorting to Court proceedings.
The collaborative family law process is a relatively new way of dealing with family disputes. The husband and wife each appoint their own lawyer but instead of conducting negotiations between you and your partner by letter or phone you meet together –with your lawyers – to work things out face to face.
As your lawyer is by your side throughout the entire process, you benefit from legal advice as you go in an environment ideally suited to enable both you and your former spouse/partner to resolve the outstanding issues between you.
