Managing the Workplace
Running a company successfully goes hand in hand with managing the workplace efficiently. Having comprehensive policies that deal with issues like poor performance, misconduct and absence through stress or sickness ensures that a business can continue to run smoothly and, for the employee, provides certainty in knowing how these issues will be dealt with if they arise.
Employers are strongly recommended to follow full and thorough procedures relating to staff grievances, disciplinary hearings and dismissals. The ACAS code on disciplinary and grievance procedures, whilst not being legally binding, has strong persuasive authority in employment tribunals with the ability to award penalties if these are not complied with. We advise on how to deal with an employee whose work or conduct falls below the acceptable standard, the steps that should be taken and where the ACAS code of practice comes into play.
