Trainee Recruitment

Becoming a Trainee at Royds
Life as a trainee at Royds is diverse, exciting and can be challenging.
Royds prides itself on nurturing and developing its trainees and is one of the
most well regarded medium sized law firms around – not least among its own
trainees, having scooped a Law Careers Net/Trainee Solicitors Group ‘Best
Trainer’ Award in 2005 and nominated for Best Legal Recruiter 2007.

Who we want
Royds has four trainee solicitors in residence at any one time. We recruit up to 2 trainees per year, normally one for each intake at March and September.
We look for candidates who have a strong academic background and who
have a determination to succeed and can show that they are committed to a career in law and to working for Royds. However, we also encourage people to apply who may have gained valuable experience outside the academic realm.

The Training
The two year training period is usually divided into 4 seats of 6 months. Each seat is generally spent in a different department or niche practice area, and we endeavour to take into account individual preferences, particularly for second year seats.

We also encourage our trainees to undertake a work experience placement with one of our international associated offices, situated throughout Europe, North and Central America and the Middle East.

We aim to help our trainees become a part of the team as quickly as possible.
As we only take a small number of trainees, they are encouraged to take responsibility and a “hands on” approach at an early stage in their training contract.

Salaries and Benefits
Trainee salaries at Royds are very competitive and our benefits package is second to none and includes pension scheme, permanent health insurance, gym membership and other standard benefits.

How to apply
